Traditional style kitchen with white shiplap ceilings

This Manhasset project was completed in 2016 and is located in Manhasset, New York. The full project photos can be seen here.

With such a large team of experts involved with the design of this expansive kitchen, located on the North Shore of Long Island, it was the homeowner who ran the show. Every element was personally hand-picked or approved by the lady of the house. When Tom Fox, the architect and the homeowner approached Starck, the bones of the project had begun to take shape; to turn this unused outdoor space into a hearty kitchen blending seamlessly with the adjoining family room. The kitchen had to be durable enough for the family of 4 active children as well as the nonstop casual visitors as well as planned guests to enjoy.

This kitchen, created as a new renovation, was added onto the home as a true team effort. Tom Fox, the architect, brilliantly coordinated the space to seamlessly blend with the adjoining family room. The major element in uniting them was the ceiling treatment, coffers with individual planks - not headboard. The circular chandelier was selected to represent infinity of the family circle.

The homeowners also chose a Wolf range top as well as the clean lines of the cabinetry. They selected Imperial Danbe marble countertops and a marble medallion above the Wolf range top surrounded by mother of pearl micro tiles add lushness and texture. The angled ovens are visually more interesting than flat and are actually easier to work from as well. The cherry-wood island includes ONLY oversized refrigerator handles - and no doors...only drawers. The flooring is oak planks.

Starck's design of the expanded window flanked by mullioned cabinets, the juxtaposing of light perimeter and dark-wood center island as well as the cater cornered angled double oven and lantern pendants, was precisely the 'decorative elements that don't add more stuff' philosophy.

The lantern lights, linen covered counter stools with nail-head dealing and Kravet fabric for the window valence, were selected by Amy Goldy Interior Design.
