French Chateau

For their new home, the clients had a vision of a kitchen with a French flavor – which is what they got.  Comparable to the formal aesthetic of the home, this 450 square foot cooking/entertaining space, separated from the living room by columns, incorporates elegant detailing while remaining highly functional.

The featured “ooh-la-la” piece is the completely customized, hand-carved, French-inspired mahogany armoire which houses the 72” Sub Zero refrigerators (2 -736TCI models connected with a Sub Zero BBDual install kit).  The double refrigeration unit allows for maximal storage and easy item location.

While cooking, the chef of the house and companions can enjoy their favorite show.  Below the French-style chateau hood and above the heavily-used Wolf range (with added black Wolf knobs), a unique translucent “black glass” backsplash was fitted with an ad notam® LED television unit.  The screen is invisible – until it’s turned on.

Jerusalem limestone flooring sets the stage for the custom-built millwork pieces.  A two-level mahogany island has a curved countertop of Calacatta marble and decorative carved brackets.  To the left of the refrigerator is a custom antique reproduction hutch in the same olive green as the French butler pantry, complete with mullioned arched grids and its own mirrored backsplash.  The custom cabinetry on the left of the Wolf range is flanked by stately columns and includes a backsplash of book-matched Calacatta marble slabs with dramatic gray and gold veining.

Pleasing to behold, according to the homeowner, the real story of this spacious kitchen is the maximal efficiency of the workhorse appliances, the Sub Zero refrigerators and Wolf range.
